Hi AZYS families!
First off, I hope all is well with you and your children! I have enjoyed this extra time with my wife and seven kids. This time together has truly made us a stronger family.
Our intent has always been to follow what the school districts were doing. In that light, we sadly will be cancelling the 2020 Spring Season.
Every registered child will get a full credit for use in ANY future season in ANY year. You can also save this credit for other children in your family.
As a low-cost, non-profit organization, registration funds are fully used each season. Half of the money is spent prior to games starting (uniforms, equipment, insurance, facility rentals, marketing/advertising, office/storage rental, etc) and the other half pays for the in-season staff (referees, gameday staff, office staff, etc). All expenses for the season have already been paid and we have about 50% of the funds remaining. Future credits is the only feasible option.
If your child is aging out and cannot use a future credit, please contact us by replying to this email.
If the Governor lifts the quarantine/social-distance order, our plan is to move forward with Summer Season. Our kids need to get out and play! Not only is it good for their bodies, but also for their spirits and minds. The plan is for basketball, volleyball and some camps (ie. speed and agility, quarterback/receiver). We may offer baseball as we have had in the past if there is interest.
If the quarantine orders don't get lifted in time, we will see you in the fall for sure!
Also, you probably noticed that the www.azyouthsports.org website has moved over to sportsengine. This happened about two weeks ago. Unfortunately, during that time of transition our @azyouthsports.org email accounts weren't receiving emails. If you sent any emails to any @AZYouthSports.org email account from March 17-March 25 and didn't get a reply, please send it again. Our sincere apologies on this. All other email accounts were working perfectly (ie. @mesayouthsports.com, @gilbertyouthsports.org)
P.S. - We know that our economy will take time to recover. We will absolutely keep registration prices low so that every child can continue to participate in team sports.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR:
Dear AZYS families,
Governor Doug Ducey has recently announced that school closures will extend through April 10, 2020. As you are aware, we are reliant on the schools and their schedule in order to have locations for our games. We have a few solutions as to how we will address the constant changes and information regarding COVID-19.
If school resumes as planned on April 13, Spring season games will run from April 18th through May 23rd with championship games on May 30th.
Our priority is the safety and health of our athletes. Please do not start practice until the week of the 10th. We will notify you when coaches are able to do so.
In the event of a cancellation:
In the event that school closures are extended even further by the governor, a cancellation of spring season may be necessary. If this does happen, your child’s registration will be credited for any future season (ie. summer, fall, winter).
Many have asked if everyone will be refunded in the event of a cancellation. The short answer is that as a non-profit corporation, there simply aren’t enough funds to do so.
With each season, about half of the registration money goes to pre-season expenses (jerseys, hats, equipment, player insurance, facility rentals, office rent, marketing, etc) and the remaining balance pays for the in-season expenses (referee payments, game-day staff, office staff, equipment replacement, etc.). All of the pre-season expenses have already been paid and we are unable to receive the money back for those expenses.
We will continue to provide updates as we receive them and we are hopeful that we will be able to provide our athletes with a fun season.
Office staff is available to answer texts and emails from 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday thru Friday. However, the office doors are closed and locked during this time.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this truly unique and complex time our world is going through.
Dear AZYS families,
As you are aware there have been many safety concerns within the community regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus). Our top priority is the health and safety of our staff, players and families. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our Spring 2020 Season. This includes practices, equipment pick ups, coaches clinic and games.
We anticipate the season to resume in April with games beginning on April 11th. Our organization will continue to actively monitor the situation closely and follow the lead of the school districts to keep you informed of any changes that may occur.
We are still determined to provide a fun and exciting season for our athletes and appreciate your support during this time!
